The
Danish Music
and
Theatre
folk
high
school with
special
emphasis
on the
teaching
of music, singing,
sound technique,
dance
and
theatre. Classes in these subjects are designed for both the student at beginner level as well as the more experienced student.
The professional quality of the teaching is of such a high standard that many of our students continue their studies in music and theatre at institutions of further and higher education.
The length of the school semester varies between 12 and 23 weeks depending on whether you choose the autumn or the spring term.
Apart from tuition in the schools five main subjects each student
has the opportunity to choose between a number of optional subjects
such as "art", "film", "philosophy" (in Danish), "sports" (outdoor
and in-door), "choir", "sound-technique", "radio theatre", "song
writing", "dance", "music" (for theatre, sound technicians, dancers
and singers) and "theatre" (for musicians, sound technicians,
singers and dancers).
The school term also includes a large number of lectures (in Danish) on various topics,
live concerts with professional artists, theatre performances (in
Danish), song evenings and excursions.
Berlin is our focal point for our study trip. It is a city thriving
with every kind of art form. Being a study trip we visit
art/historical museums, attend live concerts, theatre plays and other relevant
events.
Toward the end of each term, we embark on a tour performing live concerts
(musicians, singers and sound technicians) and performances (theatre
and dance) in various towns and cities in Denmark. The purpose of the tour is to enable the students to
perform the results of their terms work to a wider audience.
Language: The main language at the school is Danish.
Sound engineering and music are flexible in both English and in
Danish. However the theatre line is in Danish. Morning assemblies
which are compulsory do take place in Danish. Daily messages after
lunch are in Danish, the translation in English takes place after
the messages are over every day. Friday lectures and workshops also
take place in Danish. We do our best to translate as much as
possible during the term, however at times some lectures are too
complicated to be translated.
We offer our foreign students
Danish
language classes and expect them to participate. So they can
steadily start understanding the daily routine.
If you further more have any questions regarding the language feel free to contact us!
Founded in 1984 the Musik og Teaterhøjskole lies in the middle of the southern Jutland town of Toftlund in a building which was once the town's diary.
The main part of the old building is now the heart of the school with a kitchen, dinning room, student accommodation, common room, etc. As well
as 3 well equipped music rooms 1 professional recording studio and 1
professional mixing studio with 8 mixing/recording stations.
In their own self contained building the school has its very own Arts Centre (teaterhus). Built in 1990 the Centre has a 500 square metre auditorium, a costume room, dressing rooms plus a large collection of theatrical wigs.
The school can accommodate up to 56 students in double rooms. The average age is 20 but you must be at least 17½ at the beginning at the term.
